DEKA Masahiko Hayashi
Graduated from Kyoto Seika University's Department of Fine Arts' Sculpture Course.
Artist, illustrator, papercut art master. He has a unique way of expressing himself.
DEKA Masahiko Hayashi primarily creates two-dimensional monotone pencil and pen drawings, but he occasionally creates large-scale art installations that mix together three-dimensional parts he finds made of wood, coated in lacquer, or decayed with rust, along with papercut and shadow picture art that come together into spaces that change with the passage of time.
DEKA Masahiko Hayashi likes to incorporate two major themes into his work. The first is animism, or the belief that everything in this world has a soul. Rather than drawing objects as they appear to the naked eye, he abstracts from physical forms to create images closer to how he believes the beings within those forms really look. The second theme is contemporary street culture, especially graffiti, which he interprets in his own characteristic style.
He melds these two themes together, structuring and creating his art in a way he feels is unique to his position as a Japanese artist. He pairs this further with his simple, yet extremely detailed imagery and scenery which allows him to tell distinctive stories through his pieces.
