Teppei Higashi
The designer behind fashion brand RBTXCO.
Born in Kyoto, Higashi Teppei taught himself how to sew. He started to sell his own designs under the「rizalt bai tfa:ns」brand when he was still in high school.
RBTXCO (pronounced "result by chance") means "product of chance".
The concept behind the brand is that MONOZUKURI (creating) is MONOGATARI (storytelling). Each collection has a set story, and each piece is made with that story in mind.
He graduated from a vocational school. After graduating, he worked as a designer in a hat factory as well as at a textile design company. He finally started his own company in 2006. He then started to produce his own clothing, with "Made in Japan" as the main concept. Each season sees a new collection made in collaboration with local manufacturers. The styles and designs of the textiles are the core of these collections. He has made numerous other works including Rag*, an art object made from rug scraps. He co-sponsors the event Textile Marche. All the products sold are drop-shipped straight from the source.
He is also the sponsor of the 365 Cotton event (Saburoku Cotton) which aims to spread the concept of Fukuiku, or education by clothing.
On top of this, he is active as a fabric development advisor, graphic designer, costume designer, writer, and collaborator with traditional crafters and many other fields.
